The Red Feather Flap

Red Feather Lakes Colorado

Hello

So I'm concidering buying a place in Red Feather Lakes. But I would like to be able to eventually live there full time and in the mean time be able to use the place full time. How does one find out if a road is plowed in the winter or who does that?

Just not sure where to look or who to ask.

The road in question is Hiawatha Hwy between Creedmore Lakes Rd and Prairie Divide Rd.

Anything else I should worry about living in the Red Feather Lakes area?

Thanks
Joe

Hello Joe,
The road situation in Red Feather Lakes is interesting ...... and a challenge. Prairie Divide .... now named Hwy. 67J .... is a County road and is maintained (plowed) by the County. The Red Feather Lakes Road (74E) is of course also a County road and is County maintained. At lease a portion of Creedmore Lakes Rd. is the same, though I think the maintenance of the non-paved section is paid for by the Crystal Lakes HOA via their annual dues. The remaining roads are all "private". There is work in progress to dedicate a number of the main roads as "public", however that will not bring County maintenance. We are a long long way from getting any County maintenance for the roads in Red Feather.
The roads to the west of Prairie Divide are maintained (to a degree) by a special board and paid for via a special taxing district. The County oversees the special board, but I believe it is composed exclusively of private citizens. If anything here is not correct, I hope someone will jump in and correct it!!!

So Hiawatha Hwy west of Prairie Divide MIGHT get plowed :-)

Maybe a 4x4 truck is enough to get down the roads the majority of the time up there?

I know there are some full time residents up there, how do they do it?

Sorry I have so many questions.

Thanks
Joe

Hi Joe,
Sorry for the slow response. Your interpretation: "So Hiawatha might get plowed" is probably correct, but whatever plowing occurs will not be by Larimer County. There are some good hearted souls in RFL that do this work in some areas, but it is not on any kind of regular basis. It is safe to say that when we have BIG snows .... like 3 feet or more, people have to stay home for a while.

I guess I'll have to get used to it since it looks like we are buying the property :-) As long as there are no issues with the inspection or appraisal
